This first movement of my Duet No. 1 for Violin and Violoncello was written to highlight the Violin's capabilities of subharmonic/subtone playing. Specifically, the Major Seventh below-pitch subharmonic. It presents at-pitch cello opening with G 3 to an A-flat 2 interval immediately followed by the violin playing the same pitches. The work goes on to feature these pitches and other ideas presented and developed in a Webern-esque short movement.
