The final movement of my first duet is a quickly paced scherzo featuring the rhythm that Dmitri Schostakovich used frequently in many of his works.
The rhythmic work in this work is inspired by the final movement of Shostakovich's fourth quartet. Reading into it's history, the fourth quartet was in turn dedicated to his good friend Vilyams and from there inspired by the William Tell Overture.
This movement progresses in a loose sonata form. The introduction features more subtones octaves below their counterpart notes. The note E4 is brought down the octave by the violin to E3. The vertical harmony is quartal for the most part, especially in the material similar to introductory statements. Some of the material is expanded, and some is truncated. In the later half of the movement, I debut a technique in which the violinist plays their notes both arco and pizzicato at the same time. The pizzicato is done with the left hand in order to give the note a great accented attack and the sustain of arco.
Catchy, quirky, and laced with beloved leitmotifs, the OST to Deltarune's second chapter solidifies Toby Fox's status as a VGM big shot. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 29, 2021
